Registered Nurse (Medical Nurse 1 - MR10)

University Health Services

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

This position supports the University Health Service providers and staff, as well as UTC students, faculty, staff by promoting health and wellness and support for acute and chronic illness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Providing Direct Nursing Care; assisting providers with medical procedures; triaging and scheduling patients; return phone calls; obtain labs ordered by providers and notifying patients of the results when appropriate; call in medications and refills when directed by providers; lab draws, wound care, IV insertions, injections; oversee of immunization compliance; responsible for Nursing Protocols; basic Electronic Medical Record Competencies; manage CHEPS Professional Program requirements; manage travel health and international student requirements; support for new student orientation and health promotion activities with other campus and community partners; cross train for front desk relief and lab duties; mentor students who are at UHS for clinical rotations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Knowledge of and ability to use the Electronic Health Record
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills related to safe patient care
Knowledge of effective communication with patients, families, colleagues and university employees
Ability to promote a positive image of nursing by modeling the values and attitudes of the nursing profession
Proficient in Microsoft Excel (creation and management of spreadsheets) and MS Word
Skilled in phlebotomy techniques, IV insertion, injections (SQ and IM)
Able to multitask effectively
Knowledge of immunization requirements for young adults
Knowledge and skill to perform basic wound care

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Nursing; two years of experience as a nurse in either primary or acute care; experience with phlebotomy, injections and starting IVs; hold a current, unencumbered licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Tennessee or Compact State and current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience as an emergency room, school health, or urgent care nurse preferred. Having a current PALS/ACLS certification is preferred as well.
